events 2009

sunday 21 june
would you like to help break a record?
10am to 3pm

Camperdown Wildlife Centre is hosting one of the biggest Teddy Bears Picnics in the world. We are teaming up with other zoos in Europe to have the most teddies attending a zoo picnic at the same time to highlight the issues of many native European carnivores.
If you would like to say that you were involved in a Guinness World Records™ attempt, then gather your teddies and come along to Camperdown Wildlife Centre on Sunday 21st June 2009 before 11.30am and enjoy the day.
There will be lots of fun activities, face painting, street performers, animals to see and of course a chance to let your teddies see our two European Brown Bears, Comet and Star. Our conservation campaign for this year is carnivores of Europe and this will be the theme for the day to make the whole event more fun for you and your teddies.
Guinness World Records™ will allow a visitor to bring up to 20 of their own teddy bears for the record attempt and you must have something to eat for a picnic. The teddies having a picnic will only count at 11.30am so be sure to get here early to join in. The picnic activities will finish at 3pm but you can stay until our gates close at 4.30.
See you and your teddies soon!

lemur conservation

Camperdown Wildlife Centre is one of the zoos linked to the Association Européenne pour l’Etude et la Conservation des Lémuriens (AEECL). The association is made up of a group of European zoological gardens and universities, that have joined forces to carry out conservation and research projects for Madagascar’s highly endangered lemurs. Members help to raise money, provide information and captive manage some of the world’s endangered lemur species.

The member zoos have furthermore initiated captive breeding programmes for the blue-eyed Black Lemur, Crowned Lemur and the Red-Bellied Lemur within the framework of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).
